PRESIDENT BARROW VISITS GMA HEAD OFFICE
The President of The Republic of The Gambia, H.E. Mr. Adama Barrow on Wednesday 30 April 2025 conducted a site visit to the GMA Headquarters building site at the Senegambia strip. The purpose of the visit is to provide the president with progress update on the construction of the GMA Head Office, which is solely funded by Gambia Maritime Administration. The office building is a key strategic goal of The Gambia Maritime Administration Strategic Plan 2021-2026.
The GMA Headquarters is a four-story building located within the Senegambia strip and will serve as the Administrative Head Office of GMA. The office building is a modern edifice, which has been contracted to Kurubally Construction under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MOTWI). The office interior will include offices, a reception and waiting room, conference room, ICT and server room, gymnasium and other facilities.
Construction on the site commenced in 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The building will among others, house all of GMA’s key departments such as Directorate, Maritime Safety and Security Department, Marine Environment, Governance and Policy Department, Maritime Services Department, Ship Registry Department, Legal Department, Finance Department, Human Resource Department, Administrative Department and Units under these departments. The new complex will also cater for a Maritime Surveillance Center for monitoring ships in Gambian waters and jurisdiction. The center will comprise a multi-agency team from GMA, the Gambia Navy, NEA and other key actors in the maritime industry in The Gambia. The new complex boosts of conference centers on each floor as well as a cafeteria and gym.
The building is a major milestone in ensuring effective regulation of maritime transport by providing comfort and a conducive work environment for staff to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. The Head Office is a flagship project that will remove the high rental cost and alleviate crowded offices due to space constraint, as the Administration expands its operations and human resource base.
